2022 PSI – Students' Training Accelerator for Research in Theory (START)
Opens Oct 29 2021 04:15 PM (EDT)
Deadline Jan 21 2022 11:59 PM (EST)
Description

Perimeter Institute invites exceptional students to join its research community for a fully funded Perimeter Scholars International – Students’ Theory Accelerator for Research (PSI START) program.

Fifty successful applicants will take part in a ten-week online school, comprised of four courses on cutting-edge subjects in theoretical physics taught by vibrant researchers and teachers. Students will also have the opportunity to work on online group projects that examine topics in modern theoretical physics. The school will involve 4.5 hours of synchronous content and one to two hours of independent work/study each week for 10 weeks total. There is no cost to participate in the online school.

Students may also apply for an optional paid research internship, to take place in person at Perimeter Institute for up to 16 weeks. Ten accepted students will be fully immersed in Perimeter’s renowned research environment, where they will have the opportunity to work on projects alongside Perimeter researchers, with the potential for a research publication. Students will hone their research skills while participating in the rich collaborative environment at Perimeter, including talks, conferences, and events. Students chosen for an internship will be contacted with project proposals in February. Selection for the internship will occur at the same time that online school students are selected.

Perimeter Institute will invite a limited number of online school participants to continue their academic training after the online school has finished via the PSI START Bridge program. This is a part-time online program designed to supplement the final year of a degree program or facilitate the transition from full-time work to graduate school.

Perimeter Institute is committed to diversity within its community and especially welcomes applications from racialized persons/persons of colour, women, Indigenous/Aboriginal People of North America, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2 persons, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas.

Applicants who require special accommodation in order to complete their application are encouraged to contact accessibility@perimeterinstitute.ca for assistance.
