Scientists at Perimeter Institute explore the cutting edge of modern theoretical physics. They grapple with everything from the mind-bending mysteries of the quantum realm to fundamental questions about the universe that inspire awe in people of all ages and backgrounds. Summer at Perimeter is busy and we need your help. We have summer student positions available throughout the Institute, running from May 5, 2025 to August 22, 2025. 


Collaborating with the Associate Director, Software and Data Services, the IT DevOps and Cloud Developer summer student is responsible for the delivery of several DevOps (development operations) projects with the goal of streamlining Perimeter Institute’s development and cloud processes. This will include creating plugins/modules for Perimeter’s content management system and cloud application systems.

Primary Duties:

  • Development of plugins for OpenSource software systems
  • Development of Integrations between OpenSource Systems and Cloud based systems via APIs
  • Development using OpenSource artificial intelligence libraries/models
  • Contribute to larger team projects, in addition to independent projects, which may include but are not limited to: 
    • Search enhancements to Perimeter’s repository of scientific videos 
    • Plugin development of Perimeter’s open source event management system
    • Integrating Perimeter’s website with Saas services
    • Converting APEX code to flow in Perimeter’s CRM
    • Updating and running Perimeter’s AI transcription benchmarks 
    • Coding of custom forms


What you need to have:

  • 2nd year+ co-op student registered in a recognized Co-Op or Intern Program in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related program
    • Students in other STEM disciplines, like Physics or Math, with solid programing skills will also be considered
  • Solid background in coding (at least one of: PHP, Java, Javascript/node.js, python)
  • Experience with version control systems (Git, Github)
  • Experience with web APIs
  • HTML and CSS skills
  • Understanding of how to setup and configure cloud-based software 
  • Linux administration, scripting and automation 
  • Stellar time management skills
  • Laser sharp focus coupled with a zen-like calm


If we’re being greedy, we’d also like:

  • Experience or understanding of using AI models to create vector embeddings for semantic search
  • Familiarity with Cloud Service or DevOps concepts
  • Experience using REACT
