In order to qualify for the program, applicants must be officially accepted into a PhD program at a Perimeter Faculty member's affiliated university. These include the University of Waterloo, University of Guelph, University of Toronto, York University, McMaster University, and Western University.
PhD students supervised by a Faculty or Associate Faculty member located at the Perimeter Institute receive their degree from the affiliated university where their supervisor has a full or adjunct appointment. Past graduates have obtained competitive postdoctoral fellowships at international institutions, including NASA, MIT, and the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics.

- Official acceptance letter for PhD program from faculty member's university
- CV
- Two (2) referees (current and past PSI students do not require reference letters)
- Equity, Diversity, and Inclusive (EDI) statement (describing your experience and plans for creating/advancing a culture of equity and inclusion within your discipline)
